Treat IBS Sangrahani we all have little knowledge of IBS that is irritable bowel syndrome in English and as per Ayurveda,
it is known as Sangrahani.
According to Ayurveda, Grahani is nothing but the small intestine.
Grahani or small intestine is almost 5 to 6 times longer than our total body height.
suppose I am 5 feet and 5 inches long, my small intestine or Grahani would be near about 25 to 30 feet long.
Treat IBS sangrahani with Ayurveda.
Ayurveda says that there are three energetic forces of nature called Doshas or constitutions and those are Kapha, Vata, and Pitta.
Imbalance in kapha, vata, and pitta
create more acid in the small intestine.
colon or large intestine carries Vata, Kapha is carried by lungs and small intestine carries acid which is nothing but Pitta
means there is a main connection of IBS with pitta that is acid.
so when you consume that food which increases the acid level in your small intestine, IBS triggers.
It means while treating IBS we must avoid those food items which increase our acidity.
it means aberrations of acid/alkaline can lead to irritable bowel syndrome.
Tips to Treat IBS sangrahani.
- Avoid those food items which will increase the acid level in the small intestine.
- Some food which can neither digest nor throws out of the body and can’t even stay in our body, this undigested food increases the acid level in the small intestine. so use suitable fiber supplement to throw out this undigested part of the food.
- Meditation helps to keep the balance between vata, kafa, and pitta. one must practice meditation.
- Try to avoid unnecessary intake of antibiotics.
- Sangrahani, Irritable bowel syndrome is the result of your weak intestine. low immunity of intestine is the main cause of sangrahani or any gut motility and digestive disorders and it does not happen in one day.
- Low immunity and weak digestion may possible because of heredity but it becomes complicated when you ignore frequent alarms of your digestion system.
As per many Ayurveda experts,
irritable bowel syndrome or sangrahani is the result of improper coordination of digestive fire (Agni) and Airy element(Vata).
Samana Vata is the subtype of Vata(Airy Element) which located in the gastrointestinal tract.
and samavata which is one of the 5 doshas in vata dosha considered to be the main cause of sangrahani or IBS along with fiery element or jathar Agni(Digestive Fire).
in simple words, when you want the fire you need air. without air, fire cannot exist for longer time.
the same thing happens in the digestion of food.
when we eat food, our digestion needs Samana Vata to carry the digestion process.
and due to the absence of Samana Vata fire cannot complete the digestion process properly.
and this is the main reason for sangrahani or irritable bowel syndrome as per Ayurveda.
an excessive amount or less amount is not as good as per Ayurveda.
that is why Ayurveda briefly describes the causes of sangrahani or irritable bowel syndrome as follows.
causes like overeating, spicy food, consumption of food which is difficult to digest,
irregular eating habits mean if you are changing your lunch or dinner time every day it is not good for your digestion system.
because if you do so, you are disturbing your body clock.
Treat IBS with the change in diet and lifestyle
- Don’t eat if you are not hungry. it creates stress in our digestion system.
- Differentiate between want and need. I mean want leads to stress, anxiety, and triggers IBS.
- avoid emotional conflicts, I experienced that when I faced any emotional situation it triggers my IBS symptoms.
- Avoid food which increases acidity, stay away from the emotional conflicts which trigger symptoms.
- Make habit of meditation which helps to overcome IBS.
Ayurveda uses the word sangrahani for chronic diarrhea too.
